South Tyrolean Apples

Every tenth apple that is sold in Europe comes from South Tyrol. The term “Südtirol” is in itself a guarantee for top quality apples.

The designation of origin “Protected Geographical Indication” (PGI) gives the South Tyrol apple protected status within the European Union as a quality regional agricultural product.

The geographical designation “Südtirol” can only be used by producers who adhere to strict production guidelines. South Tyrol acts as a reference point and bestows a sense of identity upon all promotional activities concerning apples.

IDM South Tyrol acts on behalf of the South Tyrol Apple Consortium to consolidate the positive brand image which has been established over the past years in the key markets, and to develop it in new markets. We do this through tasting sessions, trade advertisements, TV sponsorships, PR and online activities as well as through our presence at trade fairs. The Province of South Tyrol, the EU and the Apple Consortium all contribute financially to the budget in order to achieve this.
