IDM Südtirol - Alto Adige

“Südtirol” umbrella brand

The “Südtirol” umbrella brand was launched in 2005 to harness the power of synergies between South Tyrol’s various industries in order to give the province a greater market presence both at home and abroad. It represents the shared vision, strategy and values found in South Tyrol. The unique and strong position held by the “Südtirol” brand has made the region one of the most desirable places to live in Europe and conveys an exceptional way of life.

Under the “Südtirol” brand, companies and products are promoted together and can make use of synergies between the tourism and agricultural industries. The umbrella brand enables them to pool their resources and bolster one another’s image. This helps South Tyrol to be perceived consistently across all communication activities.

The name “Südtirol” may only be used for quality products which meet the strict quality criteria laid down in the separate specifications. The products must be manufactured exclusively in South Tyrol. Compliance with these quality criteria is monitored regularly by independent, certified inspection bodies.

The combined marks used for products with a European designation of origin label and the South Tyrolean seal of quality are in the same style as the umbrella brand. This gives them a uniform and recognisable appearance.

Products awarded the South Tyrolean seal of quality are made using traditions and recipes handed down the generations, yet their production process also takes into account the latest natural food manufacturing techniques. The products are a fixture of everyday life and culture in South Tyrol.

European designation of origin labels were established on the basis of a European regulation in 1992 and are regulated by the European Commission.

The South Tyrolean seal of quality was introduced by Provincial Law no 12 in December 2005 and is regulated by the provincial government.
