Destination Management Units (DMUs)

Streamlined structure, greater efficiency

The ‘Future of Tourism’ project needs to satisfy the demands of a more streamlined structure, greater efficiency and improved coordination between the different partners. By dissolving the tourism associations, establishing the Destination Management Units (DMUs) and forging close links between IDM Südtirol and the tourism offices, these requirements are being met.

But just how are the new units structured? What services do they need to provide?
On 1st January 2018, three DMUs – West, Central and East – will begin operating in South Tyrol. These administrative and organisational units fall within the Destination Management department of IDM Südtirol and are distributed locally across the region. Bolzano, Brunico, Merano, Bressanone, Santa Cristina and Glorenza each have an office. This presence on the ground is intended to intensify exchange with the tourism offices, leisure operators and accommodation providers, and to enable the DMUs to offer active support to these service providers. Product development, communications, marketing and collaborations will be the primary focus here.

The managers responsible for the DMUs are Kurt Sagmeister at DMU West, Mirjam Lanz at DMU Central and Thomas Plank at DMU East. They were chosen by a committee comprising representatives from IDM Südtirol and the tourism associations.

Working together with the IDM management and the Presidential Committee (presidents of the tourism offices), the DMU managers will now lay down the strategies and objectives of each unit for the coming years. They will lead and coordinate current operations, represent IDM Südtirol and its units publicly, and act as points of contact for the local tourism offices, partners, authorities and institutions alike. The three managers are supported by a team of some 50 employees distributed across the six offices.
